One of my resolution this year is to run for 21.1K!
and on 27 August 2017, I did it! I accomplished 21.2k race in 04:07 hrs. Alhamdulillahirabbilalamin.
It is a long journey. I remembered when I was joining BRI Run, my fellow IM Runners planned to go for Bali Marathon 2017. I was also asked by them to join. My plan was to join the half marathon race at JakMar 2017, however I decided to sign up for Bali Marathon just earlier this year. I thought it will be nice to go to Bali after 4 years I haven't been there again.
The drama of the registration was popped up because a lot of people want to join but there were only limited slot. Luckily, with the help of Esil and mba Siska, I managed to secure a slot and get discount rate form Maybank credit card, thanks to Esil's friend also!
I started to train my self earlier this year. I created a Half Marathon training plan in my Nike Run apps. I also plan to join a running club for training but because of one thing and another I decided not to go for it instead I train myself at gym with treadmill.
About two months before the race, I join Jakarta International Milo 10k run. The result was very bad, I think it was the worse time result for 10k race haha. After that, I managed myself to at least run 2-3 times a week in the gym. My target was lowered, from finish under 3.5hrs to finish under Cut Off Time without injury.
I felt soooooo nervous as the race approaching. The day before the race, I landed in Ngurah Rai International Airport and took a photo with the Tiger icon for Maybank Bali Marathon 2017.
Just got a few hours sleep, I went to Kuta beach with Fitra, the ultimate destination that I wanted to see in Bali. Then we go to Taman Bhagawan, super crowdee with the people who wanted to take the racepack.
And the day of the race, I woke up at 2am. Together with Esil, mas Narto (Esil's Boss) and mas Bayu Jamaica Cafe, we went to Bali Safari and Marine Park. We caught in a traffic jam about 30 mins and we decided to take a shuttle car near the start line. I was queuing for toilet and took a wudhu first, then performed Subuh prayer just to ask Allah's blessing for this race.
And the race start at 05.30 am, sharp. I started to run in my confortable pace, around 8-9 mins/km. I met the wheelchairs racers, 10k racer when the road is hilly, see the beautiful scenery of sun rise by the sea, paddy field, mountain, beautiful people of Bali in the villages and town. I also met Brian who took Full Marathon but he keeps running while I was slower my pace. Slow and slow, until I reached 10km, 12km, 14km, 16 km I began to "run" again. I managed to run from 18km to 21km. The last 1 km was very horrifying. Sooooo longgg, as I couldn't see the finish line, well I could see it but still far away to reach it. I cried because this is so far and the clock has ticked to 9.30 am. The sun was very shiny at that time. I felt exhausted.
Alhamdulillah, I finally reached the finish lineee. and found no one, hahaha. Sedih sih ya, secara salah satu teman bilang akan menyambut saya di garis finish. Tapi ya udah lah yaa, saya langsung ambil refreshment dan yang paling penting medali. Alhamdulillah masih dapet medali :)
It was very nice to see that by the grace of Allah I still can finish the rice without any injury. But afterthat, my body like uh--oh--ah. Can't even managed to walk properly and I just cried because it was too tiring and pledge myself not to do any Half Marathon race in the near time.
So, back to the hotel, I lured myself with Salonpas, salep dyclophenac, etc. etc. I also feel so fuzzy that I asked the hotel to give me panadol (but they don't have it, they gave me a paramex instead!). My head was sooo ached, maybe because I was running under the sun (can't believe if I took FM!).
All in all, alhamdulillah my body can recover fast and finally I can proclaim myself as a Half Marathon Finisher :)
